My niece is studying for her Am.Medical Board exams. She just sent me an email stating that celiac disease can cause phemigus. I don’t beieve I have celiac disease, but could something in my diet cause bullous phemigoid?

    • DrCamisa says:

Celiac disease is caused by allergy to gluten, the wheat protein. Gluten allergy also causes Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH), a different blistering skin disease that has some similarities to bullous pemphigoid (BP). There is an article about DH on my blog. I’m not aware of any dietary causes of BP.

addendum to prior ; BP was diagnosed 4 months after stroke .
